I will ROCK you

My nerdy little secret is this.

I like rocks. Actually - strike that. I LOVE rocks. I simply can’t resist the urge to search for treasures when I’m on a beach. I’ve always been a collector of things. Stamps, coins, postcards, stickers. My joke has always been “At least my hobby is free!” BUT, some of my best finds have been from some pretty exotic beaches around the world, so while the rocks are free, the flight and accommodations sadly are not. (Side note -how do I become a ROCKfluencer???)

The photos below are from some recent trips from the last few months.

~Port Renfrew, British Columbia has some amazing beaches for rockhounders. Botanical Beach, Mystic Beach, Sombrio Beach and China Beach.

~Haida Gwaii, British Columbia There’s a beach on the north end called Agate beach, need I say more?

~Quadra Island, British Columbia I think I’ve found some of my favourite rocks on the beach in front of the Airbnb we stayed at. The rock pic on my ABOUT page is an assortment of my fave Quadra Rocks.

I’m taking things to the next level and joining the Hastings Centre Rockhounds. They meet once a month and have lapidary (rock cutting) equipment you can use once you’re a member. I am stupidly excited to slice some of my bigger rocks open to see what’s inside (if anything!)

As a jewellery designer I would love to cut my own cabochons (stones you can set into jewellery) from some of my finds. Stay tuned to see what sort of stony shenanigans I get into.
